A four-kilometre walk is being held in Melbourne on Sunday (April 21) to raise money for the Avner Nahmani Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
This is Australia's only foundation that is solely dedicated to helping those suffering from pancreatic cancer, which is currently the fourteenth leading cause of death in the country.
The aim of the foundation and Sunday's walk is "to break through 40 years of no progress by doubling the number of people who survive Pancreatic Cancer by 2020".
The survival rate for pancreatic cancer is the worst of all cancer varieties. According to the Avner Foundation's web site, just six per cent of those with pancreatic cancer manage to live beyond five years after they are diagnosed.
Research, and therefore funding, are desperately needed so that future patients will have a better chance of a better outcome.
