As the only burns service outside North America to receive an accreditation from the American Burn Association (ABA) and American College of Surgeons (ACS), The Royal Adelaide Hospital's (RAH) Burns Centre is up there with the world's best.
Acting health minister Pat Conlon said that it was a "remarkable achievement", congratulating everyone involved.
"For many years, patients of this unit and their families have been aware of the wonderful work done by the burns team and it’s really gratifying to see them receive this global recognition," he said.
"This accreditation proves the level of commitment by our Adult Burn Specialists to providing the best possible health care to their patients."
RAH Burns unit director Dr John Greenwood said that the review by ABA was a two-day assessment of the unit and everyone involved in providing care, also interviewing patients in the process.
"We are proud to receive this recognition and the medical, nursing and other services, both at the RAH and state-wide, can take pride in their contribution towards this achievement," Dr Greenwood said.
