The Heart Foundation reports that an Australian dies from heart disease every 24 minutes – that's a staggering 60 lives taken a day.
For the month of September, the Heart Foundation Doorknock Appeal is taking place in hopes of raising $5 million to help fund critical research and community projects to "improve awareness, prevention and treatment of heart disease".
The Doorknock Appeal will be happening in NSW, ACT TAS, NT and SA from September 1-30, Victoria from September 1-16, Queensland from September 3-16 and Western Australia from September 3-22.
The Heart Foundation are on the lookout for volunteers to help with this year's appeal, where you'll be allocated to around 20 houses in your local neighbourhood to visit and collect donations. An official Heart Foundation identification badge and receipt book will also be issued.
You can also lend a hand by offering to Online Doorknock for the Heart Foundation, by registering on the website, where you'll send emails to your friends, family and colleagues to help raise funds.
If you or a family member are at risk of heart disease, make getting health insurance a priority.
A private health insurance plan can help you get the appropriate care and treatment required to help you with your condition.
