It's that time of year to think about what your new year's resolutions will be, with the improvement of health and wellbeing one of the most common areas people choose to set their sights on.
If you plan on quitting smoking this year, then it may be a little easier according to federal health minister Tanya Plibersek.
The health minister said that those wanting to quit will benefit from new free smartphone apps, anti-smoking TV ads and larger graphic health warnings on the new plain packs.
"Any smoker can tell you how hard it is to quit – most of them try numerous times before finally kicking the habit. Given smoking is the largest single preventable cause of disease and death in Australia, we need to assist smokers to give up where and when we can," Ms Plibersek said.
"Australia now has the toughest and most comprehensive anti-smoking measures in the world, and in 2013 we hope to reduce the appeal of smoking and give more support to smokers who are ready to give up."
