Private health insurance is one step you can make this year to look after your health and wellbeing.
You can also help to look after that of your loved ones with a family health insurance plan, which can aid in ensuring they get the appropriate medical treatment and care.
Victorian minister for health David Davis unveiled plans for a "community-based rapid HIV testing trial", which will be done in partnership with the Victorian AIDS Council and the Burnet Institute, expected to be operational in the next few months.
"This will be a community-based response to HIV prevention in keeping with Victoria’s successful partnership approach to managing the epidemic," Mr Davis said.
"By providing affordable, accessible, convenient, rapid HIV testing we can reduce a number of barriers to testing, such as the need to return for results and provide an incentive to frequent testing by getting results in 20 minutes or less."
Mr Davis said that if more people test more often then we could potentially see people accessing HIV treatments sooner and "improving their long-term health and quality of life".
According to Mr Davis, there are about 6,080 Victorians living with HIV and approximately 265 new cases found each year.
"Effective treatment as prevention relies on early detection of HIV infection. If a person knows their HIV positive status sooner they can potentially start on HIV treatments sooner and stay healthy," he said.
