Those living in the Barwon region with family members who have "significant and profound disabilities" may benefit from an insurance initiative that will work at providing better support for those affected – including families and carers.
The Australian and Victorian government have teamed up together to bring the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) to the Barwon region (announced August 12), commencing July 1 2013 over the course of a trial where people with disabilities – and their families and carers – will have their needs assessed and receive individual care and support packages under the NDIS model.
Over $300 million will be invested into disability services for the Barwon community over the trial period by the Victorian government.
With the NDIS people in the Barwon region will additionally have assistance from local coordinators to help manage and deliver support, have a say in their care and support including who will be their service provider and have access to a system that will link them to mainstream and community services.
Being covered by a health insurance policy is especially important for friends and family with disabilities, as it helps to provide the support and care needed.
Private health insurance can help to make your loved one's life just that bit better.
