If you have considered purchasing health insurance online, you are not alone.
More Australians are using the Internet to buy private health insurance, although the telephone is still the most popular method of purchase, according to Roy Morgan Research.
"Although telephone continues to be the most commonly used method to purchase health insurance, the popularity of online intermediary websites and convenient purchasing methods available through insurance company websites has led to re-emerging trend to purchase policies online," Roy Morgan Research Industry Communications Director Norman Morris said in a February 4 media release.
Roy Morgan Research interviewed more than 50,000 Australians to reach these findings as part of the latest Roy Morgan Consumer Single Source Survey.
The popularity of purchasing health insurance online increased from 18.8 per cent in March 2013 to 22.9 per cent in December 2013.
Comparatively, buying health insurance over the phone fell by 3.1 per cent from 34.8 per cent in January 2013 to 31.7 per cent in December 2013. Heading into a physical branch suffered the biggest decrease from almost 30 per cent in March 2012 to just 18 per cent in December 2013.
Purchasing an Australian health insurance product can be a complex and confusing process. Attempting to understand what each health fund offers by deciphering their website and online content can lead to errors being made.
