Federal member for Lindsay David Bradbury was joined by minister for disability reform Jenny Macklin on Friday September 14 to open the Nepean Disability Expo in Penrith and talk on progress towards a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
The free bi-annual event showcases products and services from local disability organisations and service providers, allowing local people with disability – or their carers and families – to find out more on the services available to them in their area.
Many of the attendees at the expo were keen to discover more about a National Disability Scheme said Ms Macklin.
"The Gillard government is working hard to build an NDIS to make sure people with disability get the care and support they need, no matter where they live or how they acquired their disability," Ms Macklin said.
Mr Bradbury said he received strong feedback from local residents, who said that the reform was important to them and their family.
"A big part of an NDIS is making sure people with disability can have more choice and control over the care they receive," Mr Bradbury said.
