Mental illness is not the typical topic that you would be talking about around the watercooler, but your company can seek to help staff with their health and wellbeing.
Minister for mental health and ageing Mark Butler said that over a million Australian children live in a house where at least one parent has a mental illness.
Mr Butler said that these children are at "greater risk" of developing a mental health or substance abuse issue, launching a new DVD, Family Focus, on January 15 for parents with mental illness.
"We’re encouraging parents to be open and talk about their mental health issue with their children and the DVD is designed to help start the conversation," said Mr Butler.
"Many parents find it tough to talk about their experience of depression and anxiety with their children, yet talking about the problem helps the whole family to manage together."
The DVD was a collaborated effort of Australian mental health nurses, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, researchers, therapists and Australian parents and children with "lived experience" of parental anxiety/depression.
