If getting your health and wellbeing on track for 2013 is one of your New Year's resolutions, then take the next step and get yourself set up with private health cover.
A private health insurance plan can help to make sure you get appropriate treatment and care for your medical needs.
The New Year is often a time that many decide to go on a diet to get healthy eating habits started or work their way to a fit new body.
Over 200 members of the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA) took part in a survey to vote for the worst diets to avoid in 2013.
The Lemon Detox Diet was deemed as the worst by nutrition experts – for the second year running – with 74 per cent of dietitians voting for it.
This was followed by the Acid and Alkaline Diet (42 per cent) and The Six Weeks to OMG Diet (40 per cent) to round up the top three worst diets.
DAA spokesperson Melanie McGrice hopes these survey results will stop Australians from testing out fad diets promoted every New Year.
"Don’t put your health in the hands of celebrities-endorsed diets or products that make miraculous weight and fat-loss claims," said Ms McGrice.
"Like many things in life, good health takes perseverance and commitment to a healthy lifestyle."
Ms McGrice said to start with "small, sustainable changes" like going for regular walks or having home-cooked meals.
"Extreme diet measures are unnecessary and counterproductive," she added.
