In an Australian first, private health insurance provider Bupa has announced a partnership with hospital and medical centre operator Healthscope.
The deal will allow for enhanced benefits for Bupa members – such as no out-of-pocket charges for certain pathology services, discounted health checks, cheaper hospital parking and free pay TV – whenever they are admitted to a Healthscope facility.
According to Bupa director of health and benefits Angus Norris, the health insurance provider's primary goal is to help its members be healthier.
"Importantly, this unique partnership aims at achieving that by reshaping the quality agenda and delivering tangible benefits for members," he said.
"In the longer term, we want to work even more closely with Healthscope to improve the quality of service that our members receive before, during, and after a procedure in the private system."
Healthscope managing director and executive chairman Robert Cooke added that the partnership will help to set the two groups apart from the rest of the private sector.
