Almost one-third of employees have identified the workplace as a source of stress, according to a new survey.
A recent study by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) found that while 30 per cent of workers considered themselves stressed.
In addition, one in three respondents reported experiencing depressive symptoms, while one in four stating that they have experienced anxiety.
The results of the Stress and wellbeing in Australia in 2011: A state of the nation survey were also released in time to mark National Psychology Week – an APS initiative that aims to increase public awareness about psychology, psychological issues and the role psychologists play in community wellbeing.
Psychology services can be accessed through private health insurance providers – reducing waiting times and offering peace of mind in choosing the correct mental health service.
Stress in the workplace can often lead to a reduction in productivity and performance, and business health plans may also be used to encourage workers to seek assistance in managing any depression or anxiety.
According to the survey results, the most effective strategies for managing stress were reported to be spending time with friends – with 60 per cent of respondents indicating that as their form of relief – followed by watching television.
